HDSpeed by SteelBytes is a nice little application to measure your HD's speed. That is really all the application does. It won't let you increase the speed of your hard drive or modify anything on it. The application is simply a graphic that shows you the speed of your hard drive. You are shown both the actual and average speeds and the bursts of speeds that you might get. You can also measure the speed of any drives connected to and recognized by your computer. What the application does to measure the speed of your drives is write and read files on it. HD Speed comes with several dummy files. It actually creates those files. You can specify the sizes of the files in the field. The process starts when you hit the start button, and the application will copy and move the file around and read it from several locations on your discs so that you can know what the speed of your drive really is. After the scan is done, you will be able to track the bursts of speed and know a little more about your disc's real performance.
